And the fun begins...

Welcome to the Anatomy of a Cat Blog! Before I was given the assignment of writing a blog, I had never followed a blog or even really seen a blog for that matter. The whole idea of writing down all my thoughts and whereabouts for random people seemed a little strange to me. However, after reading some blogs, and learning more about what people write about and why, it became clear to me why blogging has become such a big part of today’s culture. Also, I learned that not all blogs are about the writer’s personal thoughts and whereabouts.
In my anatomy lab, I am currently dissecting a female cat. My lab partner, Josh, decided to give her the name Jinx. Josh watches a lot of movies and assured me that naming our cat after the cat in “Meet the Parents,” would be a good idea. I later watched the movie and realized the actor Jinx is very sneaky. I’m not sure why he thought this was an appropriate name because our Jinx doesn’t move around a whole lot.

Josh also went on to name the neighboring cat. His name for their cat is Simba after the Lion King. Why Simba has blue markings on his forehead is unknown, but at least it made sense why Josh named the cat Simba.

For me, this is my second time dissecting a cat. While I was a sophomore in high school, my anatomy and physiology class dissected cats. However, in high school they still had fur on them that we were required to remove. Also, my cat in high school was pregnant. After coming back from eating lunch you don’t expect to open a cat’s stomach and see four miniature cats rolled up in a little ball. That was an interesting experience.
Understanding what to expect while dissecting has made the second time around go much smoother. I now know what I’m looking for and how to better differentiate different parts of the cat. This blog is intended to help students who are currently or will be in the future dissecting cats!
